The "Back Block" Shiraz is only produced in the very best years with exceptional fruit from a single parcel of vines located in front of our cellar door at Mount View, Hunter Valley. The palate is rich, ripe, firm, generous and long.
For the past 8 years, Petersons winemaker Gary Reed, has been secretly working on this Madeira (Fortified Verdelho). Made from local Hunter Valley fruit, Gary has meticulously filtered and fined the wine until this 2016, when he has decided it is finally ready for you to enjoy.
A classic sparkling burgundy style showing vibrant red fruits of cherry, raspberry and alpine strawberry. The mid palate is soft and creamy with hints of leather, spice and slight confectionary. The back palate is long savoury, soft and dry.
Cherry cola in colour with opaque maroon hues. Lifted perfumed and wildly herbaceous, this wine displays aromas of ripe blackcurrants with hints of stewed cherries supported by wafts of almonds, vanilla, cloves and fresh earth.
This very special wine is only made in exceptional years. 2013 was an exceptional and very low yielding year with very little rainfall with each vine only producing a few precious bunches. This wine is produced from fifty year old vines grown in medium density silty clay loams over limestone which are ideal for producing classic Australian Shiraz styles.
